Split lighting is something that i like very much, where only one light is only used to bring out an image like this. The lighting for this exercise was controlled by a light meter, which shows you how much of an apeture you need. This light metre sets the settings for you so you can just put these onto the camera settings.
Taking this photo i got the subject to stand in the centre and i made sure that only half of her face had light on and the other half was blacked out. We had quite a few difficulties where we couldn't get the lighting right and just needed that few inches of movement.
This photo doesnt show split lighting because of the black shadows that showing around her cheek area.
